I was a totally different person, in regards to health. I didn’t know HOW to maintain a truly healthy lifestyle. I was in and out of routines. I ate super low calorie to “kick start” my healthy eating. BUT that would last like two days. Then I would feel guilty. Then I’d say well I can’t workout now. I’ll start again NEXT WEEK! And so the cycle would go.
I would ask myself over and over. How do you go out and eat healthy? What if I am seriously craving something? What if I don’t want to go to the gym? What if it rains on running days? How do I make choices that work for me? I had all these questions but none of the answers.
I found these answers where I find most of the answers in my life.
The HOT ROOM.
I had been a member at a gym and tried their group workout classes but never got into them and so I thought I didn’t like working out in a group. I went in to the yoga class on a total whim with my mom. During the class, it was the most miserable thing I thought I’d ever experienced. I just could not understand why ALL the stretches were weird and why the instructors wouldn’t do the poses and why in the HELL is it SO DAMN HOT! I left that room, took a sip of water, and fell head over heels for yoga! WEIRD, RIGHT? I know but I haven’t looked back since. Literally I don’t know what life would be without yoga!
I love hot yoga because how it makes me feel in EVERY area of life. Physically, Mentally, Emotionally, Spiritually- you get the picture. I am not naive enough to think that yoga will do this for every person but I do believe once you find that physical activity that does this for you, your health will fall into place.
You will be most in tune with your body and your individual health needs. The answers to all those questions about balance will start to answer themselves!

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
I have had countless broken bones and injuries so this is super important for me. If something hurts I try not to irritate it more OBVS! This also deals with cravings and I don’t mean you saying you have to eat that candy bar because it looks yummy. No I mean when you CANNOT stop thinking about something. Your body probably NEEDS something it contains. My usual cravings are cheese sticks, kettle corn and sweet pickles.
SWITCH IT UP ON OCCASIONS
I love yoga but sometimes I find myself dreading going because all I think about is that ONE posture I HATE! This is when I go to a spin class. I love Ride and Cycle Bar. I’ve also found a new love for the Pilates Reformer thanks to Defy Pilates. I have even found an affordable class in London already! Find it here. I am also all about Ballet Beautiful. I do these workouts almost every day! You don’t sweat, they last 15 minutes AND you WILL see results!
REMEMBER, A LITTLE SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING
I used to be SO bad at this. I thought I had to go big or not at all for workouts! Once I started traveling I realized that I couldn’t always get a long workout or class in so I had to make do! Changing how I thought about working out made my life even more balanced and overall healthier.
DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF
This is an ongoing battle for me! I love myself and most days I am confident and proud of what I’ve been given, but occasionally the little devil on my shoulder points out how that girl has the longest legs ever or has a million Chanel purses and ON and ON he goes. What has been helping me is telling that pesky devil all my favorite things about myself. INSIDE and OUT!
My Favorite Workout Wear!
Here in Houston we drive everywhere so we are less concerned with how we look when doing things like running a quick errand or working out. In London however I will be walking everywhere including home after yoga so I have been trying to find workout pieces that actually work and look cute too. Here are my favs!
By the way, I always go straight for the Lululemon sales rack! A helpful tip is going a couple sizes up if they don’t have your size. I wear a 4 but can go up to an 8 in bottoms if I am not too picky with the waist! In their shirts I have even worn a size 10 because I like the ultra loose fit!
I style this denim shirt with EVERYTHING! Adding a casual button down to a workout outfit makes it instant street style!
I love these leggings although I got them at Athleta instead of Lululemon and I am disappointed to say that after a couple wears and no washes they have started to pull. BUT they are SO CUTE! If I was in London I’d add a leather jacket and I’d be ready for the street!
Another easy way to make workout wear street appropriate is adding a vest! I love this one because it is reversible! I got it a couple seasons ago but I found one for y’all that I think I will add to my wardrobe for this season!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
2 cups of almond flour
1/2 cup of Enjoy Life chocolate chips
1/4 cup of coconut oil
2 TBSP Honey/Maple syrup
1 TBSP vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- Preheat to 350
- BLEND ingredients together
- Roll into 1 inch balls
- Bake for 8-10 minutes
