I am always asked, “How do you travel?” This is both the best and worst question. It always makes me feel awkward for some reason. And well it’s because I just woke up one day and decided that I was finished putting my life on hold for the “perfect time” because we all know it’s never the perfect time! So I’ve tried to put together some motivational tips that help me even still when I am being a scaredy cat. Like just a few days ago, I booked a trip to the Philippines where I’ll be traveling solo a week for my FIRST time!
JUST DO IT!
You will never regret going only NOT GOING! If it’s a horrible experience, guess what, you’ve learned something about yourself… the world… which means you’ll have a better understanding of how to choose a better location for yourself next time!
DON’T BE SCARED.
Well do be scared but don’t let it stop you! The first hint that you’ve succeeded in getting out of your comfort zone is a bit of fear. Embrace it! Soon you’ll expand your WHOLE self. Creating a new-ish you with a wider comfort zone! Don’t belong to a bubble. Bubble people are boring people. Get out.
I PROMISE YOU’LL LOVE YOURSELF FOR IT!
If you guys would have known me a few years ago. This blog would be about the perfect southern wedding, how to host Christmas parties, and finding the perfect his her bedding set. Not that there is anything wrong with those things but THAT’S NOT WHO I WAS MEANT TO BE! Since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to push my boundaries. How ecstatic that little girl is right now; I know because I’ve finally found the real me, and I love myself every day for becoming that little girl’s every hope and dream!
YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE EVERYTHING FIGURED OUT!
When I first decide on somewhere I usually have no itinerary at all! I just make mental notes of what I’d like to do and see. It’s crazy what gems you can find if you just relax and take it all in. However if you take joy in planning then have at it but don’t put a trip off because you haven’t had time to plan every aspect of it. Just get there and it’ll come together!
YOU DO HAVE THE MONEY
This is probably the biggest question I get. How do you save? Easy. What’s more important? The $100 night out every weekend or a two week trip to your paradise! I save every penny I can because I know in the long run it’s what will make me happier. Also I budget for my trips. So far the best I’ve done is Nicaragua. $40 a day for two of us. Including accommodation. You heard right! Were we staying in the lap of luxury? No! But we were staying on the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen!!
I DON’T HAVE TIME.
That’s a lie. You do have time, you just have to make time. Put traveling as a priority! Now I am lucky because as a teacher I have a very nice amount of vacation, so I get most people can’t go on month long journeys, but what’s stopping you from a week or two? ONLY YOU! Did you know most Americans don’t use all their vacation days! I cannot even believe this. It makes me sad! Take the days! Please. Please. Please. You deserve it! ALSO somewhere up in Scandinavia they’ve researched how people are more effective with shorter work days and more vacation days! So present that to your boss 🙂
JUST IN CASE YOU WEREN’T MOTIVATED ENOUGH…
